I know that making time for myself is important, but with how crazy life can get it can be difficult. My days are filled with typical mom life things, like raising my three little ones, way too much laundry (there is ALWAYS laundry), cleaning, running errands, cooking meals, etc. And that’s just the basic stuff. Throw in any kind of extracurricular activity, service opportunity, or social event and suddenly I wish I had a few more hours in the day…and that feels like every day lately, haha! I have been working on saying no to unnecessary things, but at times I still want to do it all and bite more off than I can chew. So when my kids get to bed and I can finally make time to do something just for myself, I want to take full advantage of that time and not waste it. Here are some of the ways that I multitask during my nightly beauty routine and utilize my “me time” efficiently:

1. Braiding my hair. Because my hair is super long, I prefer to sleep with it up and out of my face. Some of my favorite ways to put it up is either in Dutch braids or just a twisted top knot using these spin pins. These hairstyles not only hold my hair up in place overnight, but when I undo the pins and hair ties my usually very stick straight hair magically has extra volume or waves in it the next day. That alone saves me some time getting ready for the day!

2. Using my custom whitening traysEvery night I put my whitening trays onto my teeth at the beginning of my nightly beauty routine. I like starting my routine with this step because I can whiten my teeth as well as pamper myself with a few other steps simultaneously (and hopefully get some decent sleep before all of my kids wake up!). The whitening and desensitizing gel requires the most time, but it’s so worth it! I have not personally used a desensitizing gel with my previous at home teeth whitening experience before my Smile Brilliant custom trays, but I am not going back to anything else! My teeth would sometimes have sharp tinges of pain while whitening with other whitening products, but after my first use of the desensitizing gel my sensitive teeth have had zero pain while whitening! And because the trays are custom fit, I don’t have to worry about them sliding around or falling off like some mass produced teeth whitening products do.  Being able to apply my nightly serums and lotions while whitening my teeth with custom trays vs. holding a LED light up to my mouth is also pretty awesome.

3. Listening to an audiobook or podcast. This is a new thing I’ve added to my routine and I love it! A lot of nightly routine suggestions include cutting out technology before bed and choosing to read a book. By the time I’m in bed and start reading a book I fall asleep while reading! So clearly it would take me forever to finish a book. So I have started listening to books and podcasts during my nightly beauty routine.  Sometimes while listening I will discover inspiration and motivation that help me reflect on my day and mentally plan out how I want the next day to go. I’m currently on a podcast kick, and my favorites are Bold New MomAwesome with Alison, and Power of Moms.
