This patriotic punch is the perfect layered drink to pour and sip this Fourth of July!
This drink will be a huge hit with family and friends alike this Independence Day! You can even customize it to your own liking with different flavors, as long as you remember a few tricks from your science class 😉
The layering of this drink is caused by the different sugar contents of each liquid that’s poured. The liquid with the most sugar will remain on the bottom (I used red cranberry juice which has about 40g of sugar), the liquid with the least amount of sugar will go on top (I used blue G2 Gatorade which has about 5g of sugar), and the liquid with a sugar content somewhere between those two will stay in the middle (I used Sobe Pina Colada drink, which has about 25g of sugar). These sugar contents will help the drink colors stay separate, BUT you do still need to pour them in the order of highest sugar content first. So in my case, the cranberry juice went in first, then pina colada, and finally the blue Gatorade.
A few other helpful hints I learned while attempting to keep the colors (or flavors) from blending:
1. Use LOTS of ice! Pour your first liquid in, then fill the glass with ice.
2. Pour the next two liquids slowly and directly on top of the ice.
Hope y’all have a wonderful Independence Day!
